BARUCH BERLINER – ORIENTAL MARKET

“Oriental Market” by Baruch Berliner is an orchestral fantasy inspired by the composer’s walks in Turkic countries, where he often visited as a special guest at concerts featuring his music. Bright colors rapidly replace one another, immersing the listener in an Eastern

atmosphere. An interesting fact: during the first rehearsal, the composer spontaneously decided to add a darbuka to the orchestration. The effect exceeded all expectations, transforming an ordinary walk into an unstoppable dance.

ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK: FROM THE NEW WORLD - SYMPHONY NO. 9

In the history of symphonic performance, there was one work that caused an entire concert hall to erupt in thunderous applause after every movement — not only after the first movement or at the conclusion of the piece — and led the composer himself to rise and bow repeatedly in gratitude to the audience. That composer was Antonín Dvořák, at the premiere of his Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” on December 16, 1893, in New York.
